Blogging is a relatively new form of messaging and communicating, one which I am not yet properly accustomed to. However, what I have found is that blogging enbables people to express themselves in any way they wish, with the input and commentary of significant others adding value and interest to the blogger's thread. It is a social network that allows for people's views, thoughts, opinions and voices to be heard, without any restrictions. It is simply like having a(n) (internal) conversation, by means of typing and not speaking! It is also like an electronic diary entry that one updates daily, whereby the blogger can share experiences and events that have unfolded throughout the day or week. When one engages in a conversation with another or others, words, ideas and opinions flow and blogging seems to work in the same way. When the blogger posts a comment, he or she allows for others to cast their opinions and judgement on what has been said, and this then potentially grows into a rich topic of conversation. In this way, blogging offers endless opportunities for the blogger and those who respond, as often important information is shared between both parties.
With regards to our CMS module, blogging is imperative for our communicative purposes of sharing and engaging in material needed for our Course Work. Since our lecturer is unable to be with us physically, blogging seems to be a reasonable alternative to staying informed and receiving assignment instructions, as well as interacting on a conversational level about the content of the module and prescribed readings. Lastly, blogging is considered to be an important form of new media because of its interactive feature, and this makes it very popular since people enjoy reading what others have to say about particular subjects and topics.
